FOREWORD

With the implementation of the Third South East Asian Nutrition Leadership Program (SEA-NLP) in September 2004, the SEAMEO-TROPMED-RCCN’s intention to hold the program yearly is so far realised.

Like the previous (2002nd, 2003rd) programs, the 2004th one was attended by participants from South East Asian countries, but for the first time there were two participants from Iran and one alumnus of the 2003 SEA-NLP, Mr. Mahenderan Appukutty as resource person for the 2004 batch of participants.

The topics delivered and methods used at the program were updated and certain aspects of leadership were emphasized like communication.

With the present number and rich institutional representation of the program’s alumni, young selected potential leaders, I am sure it should be possible to address one of the needs of the region, identified prior to the start of the SEA-NLP program in 2002, namely the need to enhance cooperation and collaboration in research among nutritionists. In this connection, I would like to repeat my last year’s wish to the participant’s Networking Committee, all the success in their endeavour to foster regional cooperation in nutrition.
